What is a ceramic implant?

A ceramic implant does the same job as any dental implant: it is placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth, and carries a crown once the bone has healed around it. The difference is the material — the Neodent Zi implant is made of zirconia, a ceramic, instead of titanium or a titanium alloy.
Ceramic or titanium?
Ceramic (Neodent Zi)
Material: zirconia, a ceramic. Package: implant, standard abutment and zirconia crown. Planned with a 3D CBCT scan. Suitable for selected cases, decided by your dentist.
Titanium (Straumann, Dentium)
Material: titanium or a titanium–zirconium alloy (Roxolid). Package: implant, standard abutment and zirconia crown. Planned with a 3D CBCT scan. Suitable for most implant cases, decided by your dentist.
Both are options, not a ranking. Some patients ask for an implant that is not made of metal; your dentist explains which option suits your bone, the position of the tooth and your bite.
Is a ceramic implant right for you?

- You are missing a tooth and would prefer an implant that is not made of metal.
- Your dentist confirms there is enough bone, using a 3D CBCT scan.
- You understand it is an option for suitable cases, and that your dentist may recommend a titanium implant instead.
If bone grafting is needed first, your dentist explains how that changes the plan.
Would you like to know if a ceramic implant suits you?
Send a recent X-ray or CBCT if you have one. Your dentist examines your bone and explains your options before any treatment starts.

Charged separately, only if you need them
CBCT scan, bone grafting and graft materials, sinus lift, special abutments and a computer-guided surgical guide, plus the consultation fee and medicines.
Payment and warranty
A deposit is required before surgery and the surgical fee is paid in full on the day of surgery; the crown is paid on the day of the impression. 1-year warranty on the restoration, terms apply: it covers implant components and laboratory work done at our clinic, is used at the clinic in Chiang Mai, and does not include travel, accommodation or treatment elsewhere.
What happens, and how many visits

Like other implants, treatment is usually planned in two stages: examination, CBCT scan and implant surgery first, then the crown after the bone has healed around the implant. For the Neodent Zi ceramic implant this usually takes about 3–4 months, similar to a titanium implant. Your dentist confirms the healing time and the number of visits after the CBCT scan. If you are traveling, contact us before you book flights.
Cost of a ceramic implant
The ceramic implant package is listed with our other implant packages on the prices page.
Prices on our prices page are shown as ranges. Your final fee depends on what the examination finds, and may include additional items — such as a rubber dam or special materials — when your treatment needs them. Your dentist explains these before treatment.
Who treats you
Ceramic implant treatment is provided by dentists from our esthetic dentistry and prosthodontics teams. They plan with you how the new tooth will look and fit next to your own teeth.

Should I choose a ceramic or a titanium implant?
They are different options rather than better or worse. Your dentist recommends one after checking your bone, the position of the tooth and your bite, and explains the reasons.
