Triamcinolone 0.1% Oral paste

Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% in oral paste is a topical corticosteroid presented in a paste that sticks to moist tissue inside the mouth. It is used for the short-term relief of inflamed or ulcerated areas of the mouth, such as mouth ulcers and sore spots caused by dentures or orthodontic appliances. The paste forms a thin protective film over the area, which reduces inflammation and discomfort while the tissue heals. It relieves symptoms; it does not treat the underlying cause. Use it only as directed by your dentist, doctor or pharmacist.

1) Precautions Before Using Triamcinolone 0.1% Oral paste: Do not use the medication in the following situations:

• Untreated fungal, viral or bacterial infection of the mouth or throat, including oral thrush and cold sores.
• Known allergy to triamcinolone or to any other corticosteroid.
• Children, unless a dentist or doctor has advised it.
• Tell your dentist about any medical conditions, medicines you are taking, drug allergies, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

2) How to use the medication:

• Wash your hands before and after using the medication.
• Dry the affected area gently with a clean cotton swab or gauze.
• Dab a small amount onto the ulcer so that it forms a thin film. Do not rub or massage it in — rubbing removes the paste instead of letting it stick.
• Apply 2 to 3 times a day, after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by your dentist.
• Avoid eating and drinking for about 30 minutes afterwards so the paste stays in place.

2.1 If you forget to apply Triamcinolone 0.1% Oral paste:

• Apply it as soon as you remember.
• Do not apply a double amount to make up for a missed application.
• Continue to use it as your dentist instructed.

2.2 Precautions:

• Do not use more than the amount your dentist recommended.
• Stop using the medication and seek medical advice if you develop signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, swelling of the face or mouth, or difficulty breathing.

2.3 Precautions while using the medicine:

• For use inside the mouth only. Do not swallow the paste and do not use it on the skin or in the eyes.
• Do not cover the area with a dressing or bandage.
• Do not use it continuously for more than 7 days without speaking to your dentist.
• Return to your dentist if the ulcer does not improve within 7 days, gets larger, or keeps coming back.
• Use in children only when a dentist or doctor has advised it.

3) Potential risks from the medicine: A brief burning or stinging sensation where the paste is applied, irritation of the area, and thinning of the lining of the mouth. Prolonged use of a corticosteroid in the mouth can allow a fungal infection such as oral thrush to develop. Tell your dentist if you notice white patches, worsening soreness, or an ulcer that will not heal.

4) How to store the medication: Store Triamcinolone 0.1% Oral paste at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.
