Naproxen 250 mg. (tablet)
Naproxen belongs to the group of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), which are anti-inflammatory drugs that are not steroids. It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Naproxen is used to treat pain, swelling, and inflammation caused by various conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, muscle pain, or menstrual cramps. Naproxen is considered a dangerous drug with significant contraindications and side effects. Therefore, its use should be guided by a doctor or pharmacist’s advice.
1) Precautions Before Using Naproxen :
- Do not use if allergic to Naproxen or any components of this drug.
- Do not use in cases of sudden severe asthma or acute rhinitis from allergies to aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Avoid use in cases of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, severe liver or kidney disease, or severe heart failure.
- Not recommended for children under 2 years old.

2) How to use the medication :
- Use the medication as directed by a doctor or pharmacist, as the dosage and duration of use depend on the type and severity of the condition.
- For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or acute musculoskeletal disorders, take 1-2 tablets (250-500 mg) twice daily after meals.
- For the treatment of acute gout in children (ages 2 years and older) and adolescents (ages 12-18 years), take 5 mg per kilogram of body weight twice daily after meals.
- For relief of muscle, bone, or joint pain or menstrual cramps, start with 2 tablets (500 mg), followed by 1 tablet (250 mg) every 6-8 hours until symptoms improve.
- For the relief of acute gout, start with 3 tablets (750 mg), followed by 1 tablet (250 mg) every 8 hours until symptoms improve.
- Take the medication with food, milk, or plenty of water to reduce gastric irritation.
Note: If an overdose occurs, closely monitor for abnormal symptoms. If severe abnormal symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, fainting, abdominal discomfort, confusion, nausea, vomiting, or high blood pressure occur, seek medical attention immediately.
3) Precautions while using the medication:
- Inform your doctor or dentist if undergoing surgery or dental procedures.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
- Do not use this medication for an extended period.
- Use caution when driving vehicles operating machinery, or performing tasks that require alertness, especially in patients prone to dizziness or drowsiness when using this medication.
4) Potential risks from the medication:
- General side effects: diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, headache, drowsiness, and nausea.
- Severe side effects: facial, eye, or mouth swelling, toxicity, darkened skin, bloating, difficulty breathing, red rash, blisters, skin peeling, abnormal bleeding or bruising, black or bloody stools, bloody vomit or vomit resembling coffee grounds, yellowing of the skin or eyes, weakness or unusual fatigue, nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, swelling of the arms, legs, hands, or feet, vision problems, dizziness, depression, tinnitus.
5) How to store the medication:
- Keep the medication in its original container and remove it from the blister pack only when ready to take.
- Store the medication at room temperature below 30 degrees Celsius and away from direct sunlight. Do not store in hot or humid places such as cars, bathrooms, or kitchens.
- Keep the medication out of reach of children.
