GBT cleaning in Chiang Mai
Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a step-by-step cleaning: plaque is first colored so you and your dentist can see it, then removed with an Airflow spray and fine instruments. At Kitcha Dental Clinic, GBT is done with EMS equipment.
- Open every day, 09:00–20:00
- Opposite Chiang Mai Gate
- Coordinators in English and Thai
Who GBT can help
- You want a thorough regular cleaning and to see where plaque is building up.
- You have implants, crowns, bridges or braces that are harder to clean around.
- You have sensitive teeth and find traditional scraping uncomfortable.
- You are having gum treatment and need regular maintenance cleaning.
Hard tartar may still need fine instruments, and deeper gum pockets may need deep cleaning; your dentist explains what your teeth need.

GBT step by step

Check-up
Your dentist checks your teeth and gums first.
Coloring the plaque
A disclosing gel colors the plaque so it can be seen. Older, thicker plaque shows a darker color, and your dentist shows you the areas to brush more carefully.
Airflow cleaning
A fine spray of powder, air and water removes the colored plaque and stains, including around implants, crowns and braces.
Removing remaining tartar
Any hard tartar that remains is removed with fine ultrasonic instruments, and a final check is made.
After GBT

For about 3 hours afterwards, avoid strongly colored food and drinks, such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, soy sauce and curry, as freshly cleaned teeth pick up stains more easily.
Your dentist suggests how often to come back. Many people with implants or gum disease come every 3–4 months.
Cost of GBT cleaning
GBT prices depend on whether scaling or deep cleaning is needed as well, and are listed on our prices page. Your dentist confirms the fee at the check-up.
Prices on our prices page are shown as ranges. Your final fee depends on what the examination finds, and may include additional items — such as a rubber dam or special materials — when your treatment needs them. Your dentist explains these before treatment.
GBT FAQs
How is GBT different from a regular cleaning?
GBT colors the plaque first so it can be seen and fully removed, and uses an Airflow spray for most of the cleaning, with fine instruments only where hard tartar remains.
Does GBT hurt?
Most people find it comfortable. If your teeth are sensitive, tell your dentist, who can adjust the settings or numb the area if needed.
Is GBT safe for implants and crowns?
Yes. GBT is suitable for cleaning around implants, crowns, bridges and braces, and your dentist chooses the settings for each surface.
How often should I have GBT?
It depends on your gums. Many people come every six months; people with implants or gum disease often come every 3–4 months. Your dentist suggests the right interval.
Will GBT whiten my teeth?
It removes surface stains, so teeth often look brighter, but it does not change the natural color of the tooth. For a lighter shade, ask about whitening.
How much does GBT cost?
It depends on whether scaling or deep cleaning is needed as well. Prices are on our prices page, and your dentist confirms the fee at the check-up.
