Patient Instruction Invisalign
1. General Information
Invisalign is a clear aligner system that uses 3D computer technology to create personalized orthodontic devices. The process begins with the dentist taking an impression of the patient’s mouth. This impression is then scanned into a digital model of the teeth. A computer program determines the step-by-step movement of the teeth according to the treatment plan outlined by the dentist. Each stage of tooth movement is used as a template to manufacture the individual Invisalign aligners.
2. Alternatives treatment
-
- Fixed orthodontic appliance (Metal Braces , Damon Braces)
3. Risk and side effect of treatment
-
- When wearing Invisalign for the first time or when switching to the next aligner, you may experience tightness or tooth pain in the area where the aligner is placed.
-
- This discomfort usually subsides within about a week. If the pain or discomfort is severe, stop wearing the Invisalign aligner and consult your dentist.
4. Pre / Post Care
Wearing Invisalign
-
- Wear your Invisalign aligners as instructed by your dentist, typically for 20-22 hours per day.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling your Invisalign aligners.
- Insert each aligner one at a time.
- Rinse the Invisalign aligners with water before using them after taking them out of their case.
- Ensure that the aligners are placed correctly: the upper aligner for the upper teeth and the lower aligner for the lower teeth.
- To avoid confusion, each Invisalign aligner is engraved with letters and numbers: “U” for the upper teeth and “L” for the lower teeth, followed by the aligner set number.
- You can start with either the upper or lower aligner. Gently push the Invisalign into place, starting with the front teeth, then use your fingertips to apply even pressure until it fits snugly over the back molars on both sides.
Removing Invisalign
-
- Gently use your fingertips to remove the Invisalign from your molars, starting from the inner side of the last molar on one side.
-
- Repeat the process on the other side before pulling the entire Invisalign tray out.
-
- Once the Invisalign is loosened from both sides, carefully pull it out.
-
- Rinse the Invisalign with water immediately, shake off excess water, and store it in the provided case.
-
- Avoid unnecessary removal of Invisalign to prevent damage.
-
- Remove Invisalign cautiously, especially if there are multiple attachments on your teeth.
-
- If you find it difficult to remove the Invisalign or cannot remove it, consult your dentist.
Daily Care and Cleaning for Invisalign
-
- Clean your Invisalign with a toothbrush before every use. It may be easier to clean the outside of the Invisalign while it’s still on your teeth, then remove it to clean the inside.
-
- Important: Ensure that you rinse each Invisalign tray thoroughly with water after brushing. It’s recommended to use an Invisalign cleaning product once a week or as needed.
-
- Do not use a denture cleaner to clean Invisalign, and do not soak Invisalign in mouthwash. These products can damage the surface, making Invisalign appear cloudy, less transparent, and more noticeable when worn.
Proper Oral Hygiene for Invisalign Wearers
-
- Remove Invisalign before eating or drinking (except for cold water, which doesn’t require removal).
-
- Brush your teeth and use dental floss after every meal or snack before putting Invisalign back in. If you don’t have the necessary tools or a toothbrush available, simply rinse your mouth with water and rinse Invisalign under warm running water. While this isn’t the best cleaning method, it’s better than nothing, and you should thoroughly clean Invisalign as soon as possible.
-
- If you encounter any issues with your cleaning technique, consult your dentist.
-
- Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are recommended to maintain the health of your teeth and gums.
-
- Use chewies to help Invisalign fit more snugly against your teeth. Regular use of chewies greatly enhances the success of your Invisalign treatment.
Storage of Invisalign
-
- In your initial Invisalign kit, you will receive two storage cases: a blue case and a red case. Always store your Invisalign aligners in a case when not in use to prevent loss or damage. The blue case is for your “current stage” aligners—store the aligners you are currently using (such as set 1) in this case. When it’s time to switch to the next set of aligners (such as set 2), move the previous set (e.g., set 1) to the red case. The most recently used aligners should always be kept in the red case. If your current set of aligners is lost or broken, your dentist may advise you to go back to using the most recent previous set stored in the red case while waiting for a replacement of the current set.
Precautions
-
- Keep all used Invisalign aligners in the provided plastic bags or as recommended by your dentist. Store them out of reach of young children and pets.
Prohibitions
-
- Do not use biting methods to fit Invisalign aligners, as this may cause them to crack.
-
- Avoid using excessive force or twisting when removing Invisalign aligners.
-
- Do not use sharp objects to remove Invisalign aligners.
